Q. How do I get there?

A. The Chunk is held East of Bridgeville, Delaware. Click here for detailed directions.

Q. What are the GPS Coordinates for the Chunk Location?

A. Latitude = 38.7101657968, Longitude = -75.5315404535. Click here for a map display.
(Don't forget the minus sign in front of the Longitude! Otherwise you'll be looking for a Chunk in Western China!)

If your GPS only accepts cross street information, enter the intersection of Seashore Highway and Chaplains Chapel Road.

Q. Is there an admission fee?

A. $9.00 per adult and $2.00 parking per vehicle. Children under 10 are admitted free of charge.

If you are towing a trailer or have an oversize vehicle there will be an additional charge.

We are sorry, but there are no multi-day tickets.

Note that if you purchase tickets to the concert for Friday evening, your admission to the chunk for Friday only is included.

Q. Should we bring blankets or chairs?

A. Good idea. The event is held in a large field. Most spectators stand by the fence, but later in the day a place to rest is always welcomed I am sure. The viewing area stretches for a long distance and there is plenty of room to get a good view. You will see people with platforms on buses, vans, and other inventive viewing venues.

Q. Will food vendors be available?

A. There will be a wide assortment of food and beverage vendors, However, no alcoholic beverages will be sold on the grounds.

Q. How do we enter a machine?

A. Print the application form and mail it along with the fee to the address on the form.

You can also contact us by sending a request letter to:

World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association
PO Box 217
Nassau, DE 19969

The application form will be mailed to you.

Last year's participants must register prior to June 1st to guarantee the spot on the 'firing line' that they had in the previous year's event.

Q. What are the rules of the Chunk?

A. Click here for the Official Rules.

Q. How are the machines classified?

A. We have "Adult Air", "Adult Centrifugal", "Adult Catapult", "Adult Trebuchet", "Adult Human Power", "Adult Human Power Centrifugal", "Adult Torsion Catapult", "Youth 11-17 Air", "Youth 11-17 Catapult", "Youth 11-17 Trebuchet", "Youth 11-17 Human Power", "Youth 10 & Under Catapult", "Youth 10 & Under Trebuchet", "Youth 10 & Under Human Power" and "Theatrical".

Q. Can I bring my dog to the Chunk?

A. We request that for the pets safety and comfort that they be left at home. There are thousands of people wandering around and it is easy for a pet to get hurt. Then there is the lack of shelter from the weather and the pets need for food and water. We have no running water on the grounds. When the pet has to relieve themselves there is an issue with sanitation. The bottom line is the pet would be safer and more comfortable at home. Should there be a problem caused by either the pet or owner, we will ask both to leave immediately.

Q. What are the lyrics to the Punkin Chunkin Anthem?

A.The Punkin Chunkin Anthem, written in 1989 by William and Dawn Thompson has become a traditional part of the event's daily opening ceremonies.

Now you can sing along:
It was the end of October, the beginning of November.
The air was cold and clear and I said, Boys listen here,
I think I can make a punkin fly.
John said, Cannot. I said, Can too.
So we put that punkin in a bucket, swung around, away it flew.
John said, No fair. We said, Hell, it's in the air.
So the challenge was made and the gauntlet was laid
To build a machine to power a punkin through the air.
John said, Springs are the way to go. Bill said, I don't believe so.
It's Punkin Chunkin time again.
Come on, all you neighbors and friends.
I'll show you how to make a punkin fly ... rain, snow or blow.
Them punkins are gonna go!
